Today's Big Goal This was a session with my tutor. We went through the usual tunes: Cutting Bracken Skye Boat When the Battle's O'er Paddy's Leather Breeches and working on the new tune: Shores of Loch Bea Today's practice notes My brain is going through the totally confused stage. This is a typical phase when I am learning something new. At first I am progressing well, but then my skills drop back to almost day 1. I am hoping that it will get over it very quickly because there was a time when I was able to hit all the doublings but now they are total rubbish. What worked well Keeping up with correct tempo is improving but I can tell that I still run away in my own time. Lack of concentration I would suggest. I need to learn to listen. My tutor is ever so gracious and keeps reminding me that I am at his G4 band's standard. I am encouraged to hear that but am disappointed that I am not improving consistently and seem to have regressed :-( What did not work well Just about every tune was a jumbled mess apart from Cutting Bracken, but then this one is a very simplified one, so no guernseys to be won here. Tomorrow's goal My tutor reckons I should focus on increasing the tempo with each tune and not worry about the messed up doublings. Next tutoring session will be on November 20th because both my tutor's and my schedules can't be reconciled. Since I have just signed up to the online beginners competition , I will work on the tune I will be performing. Just one bar at a time to ensure I hit all the notes correctly, consistently and on time.
